Arsenal fans react as Campbell sidelined for six months

In the Arsene Wenger era Arsenal have always been associated with developing young players into top Premier League stars, however, in recent years there has been somewhat of a drought.

One player who looked as if he was going to wind back the years and shine as a young prospect was Costa Rican winger Joel Campbell, who featured heavily for the Gunners two seasons ago before going out on loan to Sporting Lisbon.

There had always been a lot of excitement around Campbell, but he was yet to make the final step up and cement himself in Wenger’s first team plans. As always, though, with a new season came new opportunities. That was until the 25-year-old, who joined the club six years ago, picked up a devastating six month injury whilst on international duty.

Campbell confirmed to reporters that he would need knee surgery after damaging his ligaments in Costa Rica’s 1-1 draw with Canada.

The news has not gone down well with Arsenal fans who were clearly looking to make a little profit from the sale of Campbell this summer…
